“Affliction: Banned” to Use Extra Large Ring?
Jul 14, 2008 in Uncategorized
Sherdog has a new video interview with Mark Hominick, who fights former IFL’er Trenell “Savant” Young on the under-undercard of Affliction’s debut show this Saturday. And just when you thought you’d heard everything there is to hear about the biggest show of 2008, Hominick casually drops this nugget:
“I’m glad to be a part of history, and that’s exactly what this show is. It’s history. You know, it’s gonna be the biggest heavyweight card of all time, especially on North American soil. And, you know, they’re bringing in the biggest ring ever in the States, so it’s gonna be huge, you know, room to play. So I’m gonna be excited to be in there… I’m a kickboxer. I trade, and I love the ring. I’ve talked to Savant, he likes the ring too. And we both like to stand and trade, and that’s what’s gonna happen. It’s just he’s gonna fall down.”
I wonder how big this thing could really be, considering this is the first time I’ve seen or heard it mentioned anywhere and the show is less than a week away. In fact, Affliction have been somewhat elusive in their not-mentioning of the structure in which the bouts will take place. Could they be afraid to scare off potential casual PPV buyers who want their fights caged? Or have my wildest dreams come true: has Tom Atencio purchased the prototype of “The Hex” from the sinking IFL?
Affliction – Banned

This Saturday catch Savant Young take on Mark “The Machine” Hominik on July 19th, 2008 at the Honda Center in Anahiem, CA.
Recently, Hominick’s opponent, Savant Young scored a major upset when he defeated Shooto superstar “Lion” Takeshi Inoue. In facing off against Young, Hominick feels he could put himself back in the running for a title, should Affliction decide to crown a champion at 145-pounds.“Well, with Savant, I’m fighting a top ten fighter, who previously beat the No. 2 ranked guy in the division, so beating him puts my name back where it belongs, in my opinion,” he said. “Coming out of the show as the winner, I think it puts me in contention right away.”
However, Hominick knows that is easier said than done. more…
